Lorraine Hoff realized her passion for mosaics during a class at the Hand Workshop several years ago. Once mosaic projects and supplies started multiplying and taking over her home, she moved her work to Studio #219 at Art Works Studios & Galleries in 2004. She later expanded her studio into #218, doubling her display space. This working studio shows many items Lorraine collects for her projects...Scrabble tiles, dominos, shells, keys, cans, buttons, dishes, and lots of glass, porcelain and ceramic tiles...all to someday be made into a variety of mosaic furniture, frames, mirrors, vases, bowls, etc. In addition to her mosaic work, Lorraine has taken up painting acrylic abstracts, which are on display in her studio. Lorraine has also done mosaic work on a larger scale with commercial installations. She designed and installed a mosaic entryway at Parkview at Fountain Lake Condominiums in Byrd Park in Richmond. She also designed and installed a 100 square foot mosaic along a 40-foot wall at the University of Richmond’s Hemisphere’s Mongolian Grill at the Heilman Dining Center. This installation was featured in the July 2007 issue of Richmond Magazine. Her mosaic work was also mentioned in the September 2007 issue of Southern Living in an article featuring Art Works. Lorraine has donated her artwork to various non-profits, including Children’s Miracle Network, Richmond Men’s Chorus, Caring Voice Coalition and Easter Seals. A native of Rochester, New York, Lorraine works as a graphic designer when she’s not creating in her studio. She is also the organizer of the Richmond Scrabble Meetup Group.
